Ranger’s Apprentice 10: The Emperor of Nihon-Ja

Horace is missing. Months have passed since he was sent
on a military mission to the court of the Emperor of Nihon-Ja but he
has failed to return. Evanlyn is worried, and in company with Will and
Alyss, she sets out to discover what has become of their old friend.

They find that Horace has become embroiled in Nihon-Jan politics. The
arrogant Senshi sect has rebelled against the rightful Emperor and
Horace has chosen to stay and lend support to the deposed ruler. Now he
and Will must find men willing to face the highly trained Senshi
warriors, while Alyss and Evanlyn must overcome their longstanding
rivalry to seek aid from a mysterious group of mountain dwellers.

Ranger’s Apprentice 9 : Halt’s Peril

Halt, Horace and Will are on the trail of Tennyson and
his followers. The false prophet of the Outsider cult escaped justice
for his crimes in Clonmel, and Halt is determined to stop him before he
crosses the border into Araluen.

Will has defeated one of Tennyson’s Genovesan assassins in Clonmel –
but there are two left alive. Are the extraordinary archery skills of
Will and Halt enough to save them during a duel with the Genovesans . .
. or is Will’s mentor facing his last battle?

Ranger’s Apprentice 8: The Kings of Clonmel

Will is at the annual Ranger Gathering but Halt is
investigating mysterious happenings in the west. When he does finally
return, it’s with bad news.

Hibernia is in turmoil. A religious cult calling themselves the
Outsiders are sowing confusion and sedition, and five of the six
Hibernian kingdoms have been undermined. Now the sixth, Clonmel, is in
danger. Halt, Will and Horace set out to restore order.

Can the secrets of Halt’s past help them in their mission?

Ranger’s Apprentice 7 : Erak’s Ransom

When Erak, the Skandian Oberjarl, is taken hostage during
a raid on the desert lands to the south of the Constant Sea, only a few
of his men escape, including Erak’s second-in-command, Svengal.

The timing couldn’t be worse. Svengal arrives to tell King Duncan in
the middle of Halt’s wedding! The festivities will have to continue
without the groom, his best man and the king as they try to work out a
plan to pay for Erak’s release. Halt and Will must go on the mission,
but a royal presence is needed too.

The Princess Cassandra – or Evanlyn, as the boys know her – persuades
her father to let her go with them. Horace will provide the muscle
power, and the Ranger Gilan rounds out the group to make sure that
Evanlyn is well protected.

In the treacherous desert lands, will violent sandstorms, warring
tribes and danger at every turn keep them from reaching Erak in time?

Ranger’s Apprentice 6 : The Siege of Macindaw

Now a full-fledged Ranger, Will must rescue his friend
Alyss from a rogue knight and uncover vital information.

In this desolate northern fief, where can Will find the fighting men he
needs to overcome Sir Keren and his band of criminals?

Across the border, the fierce Scotti tribesmen are waiting for the
signal that Castle Macindaw is in friendly hands, and the way is clear
to mount a full-scale attack.

Ranger’s Apprentice 5 : The Sorcerer In The North

Time has passed since the apprentice and his master, Will
and Halt, led the Araluens to victory against invaders, and Will is now
a full-fledged Ranger with his own fief to look after.

The fief seems sleepy and boring, even, until the king is poisoned.
Joined by his friend Alyss, Will is thrown headfirst into an
extraordinary adventure propelled by fears of sorcery, and must
determine who is trustworthy to the king and who is trying to take his
throne.

Will and Alyss must battle growing hysteria, traitors, and most of all,
time. The king is fading, but when Alyss is taken hostage, Will is
forced to make a desperate choice between loyalty to his mission and
loyalty to his friend.

Adventure abounds in this absorbing installment of the New York
Timesbestselling series.

Ranger’s Apprentice 4 : Oakleaf Bearers

Can sworn enemies fight side by side to save their lives
and their kingdoms? Just as spring approaches and Will and Evanlyn can
finally escape Skandia, Evanlyn is carried off by mysterious horsemen.

Will sets out after them, but one boy against six fierce Temujai
warriors is impossible odds – even for a Ranger apprentice. Halt and
Horace arrive just in time.

But the happiness of their reunion is cut short when Halt realizes
these Temujai are only scouts for a massive invasion force. The four
Araluans must work together with the Skandians to defeat the invaders –
if the Oberjarl will accept their help.

Ranger’s Apprentice 3 : The Icebound Land

Kidnapped and taken to a frozen land after the fierce
battle with Lord Morgarath, Will and Evanlyn are bound for Skandia as
captives aboard a fearsome wolfship.

Halt has sworn to rescue his young apprentice, and he will do anything
to keep his promise – even defy his King.

Expelled from the Rangers he has served so loyally, Halt is joined by
Will’s friend Horace as he travels toward Skandia.

Ranger’s Apprentice 2 : The Burning Bridge

As the Kingdom of Araluen prepares for war against
Morgarath, Will and Horace accompany the Ranger Gilan on a mission to
Celtica.

But Celtica’s villages are silent. Only an exhausted and starving girl
called Evanlyn can tell them why: Morgarath has sent his foul creatures
to enslave the Celts.

While Gilan rides swiftly back to report this news to the King, Will,
Horace and Evanlyn discover the true purpose behind Morgarath’s actions.

The Kingdom is sure to be defeated in a surprise three-sided attack –
unless they can find a way to prevent it.

Ranger’s Apprentice 1: The Ruins of Gorlan

STUNNING NEW LOOK for the New York Times and Australian
bestselling series about Will and his friends from Castle Redmont

Will is small for his age, but agile and energetic. All his life, he
has dreamed of becoming a great knight like the father he never knew,
so he is devastated when he is rejected as an apprentice to Castle
Redmont’s Battleschool. Instead he is apprenticed to Halt, the
mysterious Ranger whose uncanny ability to move unseen is thought to be
the result of black magic.

Reluctantly, Will learns to use a Ranger’s secret weapons: a bow and
arrow, a mottled cloak and a stubborn little pony. It may not be the
sword and battlehorse he longs for, but when Will and Halt set out on a
desperate mission to prevent the assassination of the King, Will finds
that a Ranger’s weapons are not so useless after all . . .

Georgia, I am currently studying Japanese and, although i haven’t read the book yet, I think that you are correct in the assumption that the book is set in Japan. The title alone gives it away as Nihon means Japan and Japan is also one of the main countries that has emperor’s ruling it.
