1. To begin with why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself – where were you born? Raised? Schooled?
I am 59 years young, brought up in Melbourne and schooled at Wesley College where, like Winston Churchill, it is said I went under the school, not through it! I was a good athlete and the class clown, a trait that has persisted throughout my life.
My marriage failed while in jail but I have been fortunate to meet a lovely new lady and my son (18) lives with us. My daughter (16) lives with mum but we have a close relationship.
2. What did you want to be when you were twelve, eighteen and thirty? And why?
I have never wanted to be anything but a criminal defence lawyer. Lucky for me that came to pass because I haven’t the slightest clue what I would have done if I didn’t become a lawyer.
3. What strongly held belief did you have at eighteen that you do not have now?
Once upon a time (all fairy stories begin thus) I believed politicians existed for the greater good and always told the truth! I put this, down to my large “L” liberal upbringing.
4. What were three big events – in the family circle or on the world stage or in your reading life, for example – you can now say, had a great effect on you and influenced you in your career path?
My maternal grandfather, also a lawyer was a massive influence on me. He held the old Aussie values of the fair go for all and I followed suit. I remember watching the first moon landing and to me it confirmed anything can be accomplished if you want it badly enough. I have always been an avid reader but the book of greatest influence was an Aussie yarn Power Without Glory, a powerful “novel” which took my breath away with its brutal frankness. From then on I was convinced of the power of the written word.
5. Considering the innumerable electronic media avenues open to you – blogs, online newspapers, TV, radio, etc – why have you chosen to write a book? aren’t they obsolete?
Books are forever, they are not and never will be obsolete, the written endures long after electronic blogs have gone the way of all flesh. An additional advantage of books is usually writers are able to spell and construct a decipherable sentence.
6. Please tell us about your latest book…
Snouts in the Trough, Lifting the lid on Police Corruption in Victoria, something the current Government will not like with an election in the offing. It discloses corruption on a scale I never imagined existed.
7. If your work could change one thing in this world – what would it be?
Overpopulation and archaic attitudes to birth control.
8. Whom do you most admire and why?
Having been to jail for a lengthy period it has to be Nelson Mandela. His ability to overcome adversity and still have a benign view of the world is astounding.
9. Many people set themselves very ambitious goals. What are yours?
Not at all ambitious: stay well and continue to rebuild my new life which I have been fortunate enough to receive. I have been given a second chance and I intend to grab it with both hands.
10. What advice do you give aspiring writers?
Don’t get despondent, when it gets all too hard, walk away for a while, but always come back. It is surprising how inspiring a break can be.

not all prison officers are clowns the ones I know are decent human beings and they would have treated you with respect and dignity you sound like a smarty and got what you deserved
Your work to enhance the betterment of Gippslanders with ‘mental ilness’ is highly commendable.
Empathy is a ‘beautiful’ ‘trait’.
We know we all have the odd struggle or challenge but to empathise with mentally ill people is a very special testament to ones ‘good charactor’.
I was the ‘instigator of ‘Barrier Breakers’ some years ago.

go for it ,Andrew, i think you were a very creative & cleaver lawyer, & had a lot to teach the ones that were close minded. you are a person that cames from any thing that the authorities and your so called collugues put you down . unfortunately this country is great at kocking the tall poppies, i wish you, your new relationship & family all the best. you saw what other;s saw in the terrible police corrupation in the country and you did nothing something about it. keep it up. and I hope one day the legal system in this country will let a brillant lawyer practice again. cheers
How do you sleep at night. You did one good thing by assisting police with the Dupas case but that doesn’t justify your past. Your coniniving tactics in the past will one day catch up with you. I have had dealings with you in the past and was immediately drawn to the fact that you are a megalomaniac. You are, and no doubt will always be, full of your own self importance. I feel for your family who have had to put up with the negative impact you have inflicted on them. They say crime doesn’t pay, but in your case it certainly has. I have read your books, albeit it pained me to have to buy them, but I was intrigued to read about the verbal diarrohea that was printed. The only things in your books that have any real substance are your views on lack of rehabilitation within the prison system. You should never have any access to the profits you make from your media commitments as they are certainly proceeds of crime. Furthermore, the painful memories that are inflicted on the families of Steven Tynan and Damien Eyre in your ‘Killing Time’ episodes are a disgrace. I wouldn’t even wish that pain upon you, even given the fact that you are the maggot that you are!!! You are a disgrace to the legal fraternity and to the values of the justice system as it stands! My opinions of you will always haunt me and I hope to god you one day reap the pain that you have caused to others.

Congratulation ndrew on bravely publishing your books. These practices need exposing.
We have been victims of the Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squads innadiquacies. Wrongly accused, SARCIS would not investigate the case, simly turning up and tagging along as neighbours caused thousands of dollars worth of damage. When we were tried by the media, even before my husband was charged, we realised that we had no where to go. My husband was taken to committal where he was sentanced to trial. This was then dropped. No effort was made to find the real perpitrators of the crimes.
In desperation I also wrote a book. i named names and everything written can be substantiated. It came out last July and we had to reprinnt in August. No one has sued me for what I have written Should they do so alot more evidence will ccome out pointing to who did commit the crimes and SARCIS might need to answer questions as to why they allowed outsiders to railroad them into not doing their jobs.
Once again thank you Andrew for exposing how some sections of our so called system works. hopefully forewarned is forarmed for other law abiding citizens that might find themselves exposed to these systems.

Just bought my copy of the book today and so far its an interesting read. In fact, the open and directness is amazing. This is some quality work Andrew. Hopefully Andrew may do a book on the corrupt Queensland police force. Whatever corruption is going on in the Victorian police, you can multiply that by 1,000 in Queensland.

I have absolutely no doubt that everything that’s written is the truth, congrats Andrew, I’ve not been able to locate any lawyers in South Australia with even one gram of your courage. I love the sub title of the “THE BROTHERHOOD…” that’s exactly how the criminal element in Australian governments act. The book in which NSW police said I was a murder victim the title is “BROTHERS IN ARMS” Oh how I wish there were more like Andrew Fraser in Australia.
