In the Wake Of Fifty Shades Australian Publishers Reveal A Desire to Dominate : New Erotic Titles Tumble From the Presses

by |June 14, 2012

The book world sighs in unison. The dark matter of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has filled the void left by the dying star of paranormal teen fiction. Of course, publishers worldwide predicted this would happen.

Right?

Night always follows twilight. And it doesn’t get any darker than erotica. Makes sense. What we are witnessing is a natural progression from the muted, frustrated desire of teens to the perverse sexual expression of the unfettered adult.

But erotica isn’t new. Universal acceptance of it is. You might sit on the bus next to a woman reading paperback edition of Fifty Shades of Grey tomorrow and not even raise an eyebrow. A riot would break out if the man next to her decided to watch porn on an iPad, however.  A strange double standard, but understandable. Their are limits. I mean, there were. I mean, there are. I mean, who knows what people will think is acceptable in a year or two.

It’s only a few years since people thought The Bride Stripped Bare was too naughty to be seen reading.

Now everybody knows someone who has read or is reading Fifty Shades of Grey. Teachers, grandmothers, neurosurgeons, aunts, girlfriends, wives, Ellen, and mothers are all reading it. Millions, yes, millions of readers now know they like reading erotica. After they gobble down the Fifty Shades trilogy a large proportion of those readers will be on the look out for more.

Well, that’s where we come in.

We can get you more of what you want.

Australian publishers have been knocking down our door to ensure that their brand new erotica titles are on our site.

But are they all brand new? Two are, for sure.

Harper Collins Australia paid a fortune for the rights to mother of two, Indigo Bloome’s Destined to Play, the first of the Avalon Novels, and have rushed it into print. It will be available from the first days of July.

Random House Australia, the publishers of Fifty Shades of Grey, will publish Natasha Walker’s trilogy, The Secret Lives of Emma over the coming months. The Secret Lives of Emma: Beginnings being the first volume. It will be available from 17th July.

Both of these titles are home grown originals and both publishers have high hopes for their success. And judging by the pre-orders for both, we feel they will not be disappointed.

Fifty Shades of Grey has lead the way. It has discovered regions of the reading world thus far relatively unexplored. This is frontier territory. Australia’s publishers will have to get their hands dirty if they want to stake a claim.

Sugar in My Bowl: Real Women Write About Real Sex

edited by Erica Jong

Available 26.06.12

“I need a little sugar in my bowl, I need a little hot dog, on my roll I can stand a bit of loving, oh so bad, I feel so funny, I feel so sad”. (Bessie Smith).

When it comes to sex, what do women want? In this eye-opening and courageous collection, Erica Jong reveals that every woman has her own answer. Susan Cheever talks about the excruciating hazards of casual sex, while Gail Collins recounts her Catholic upbringing in Cincinnati and the nuns who passionately forbade her from having carnal relations. In Everything Must Go, Jennifer Weiner explores how, in love, the body can play just as big a role as the heart. The octogenarians in Karen Abbott’s sharp-eyed piece possess a passion that could give Betty White a run for her money. Molly Jong-Fast reflects on her unconventional upbringing and why a whole generation of young women have rejected free love in favor of Bugaboo strollers and Mommy-and-me yoga. Sex, it turns out, can be as fleeting, heavy, mundane, and intense as the rest of life. Indeed, Jong states in her powerful introduction the truth is – sex is life.
