Australian Romance Author Showcase with…Shona Husk

by |July 18, 2013

As part of Australian Romance Month, Romance Specialist Haylee Nash will be interviewing one Australian Romance author per day. Much like a beauty pageant, each author will be using their charm, wit and grace (and the power of social media) to take home the Booktopia Romance Bestseller crown. Booktopia invites fantasy romance and paranormal romance author Shona Husk to the stage.

1. Describe the perfect date.
A seafood dinner somewhere with great views, great wine and great company.

2. Which of your books are you most proud of?
The Goblin King because it was my first novel published (I was already published in novella length) and Dark Vow because it was the first book I wrote in first person POV. Finally, The Outcast Prince because it is the first book in my second print series—which proved to myself my first trilogy sale wasn’t a fluke. It’s the milestone books that stand out.

3. What is the hardest thing about being a romance author?
At the moment it’s coming up with names or possibly deciding what to work on next…

4. What is the best thing about being a romance author?
The research, definitely the research *smiles innocently*

5. Who (aside from a significant other) do you swoon over?
I’m more likely to swoon over a character that an actor plays than the actor. Give me Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Aiden Turner as John Mitchell (Being Human) or Scott and Stonebridge (why choose?) from Strike Back any day.

6. Tell us something very few people know about you.

I eloped when I was nineteen with my high school sweetheart. We’re still married 🙂

7. Describe your writing style in three words.
Dark, lush and sexy.

Australia’s local bookstore

8. What is your definition of a good book?
Something that takes me away from the everyday, shows me a new world and sucks me into the drama of what is going.

9. Which author would you invite to a dinner party and why?
Ann Aguirre. I love her books and she writes in a few different genres so I think she’d be fascinating to talk to.

10. Finish this sentence: I would do anything for love, but I won’t _____
change who I am.

Three time ARRA finalist Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories. As an adult she discovered romance novels and hasn’t looked back. Drawing on history and myth, she weaves new worlds and writes heroes who aren’t afraid to get hurt while falling in love.
