Fight Club 2 Is Confirmed, But It Won’t Be A Novel….

Saying we’re excited doesn’t really cover it, as novelist Chuck Palahniuk has confirmed that he is currently working on a follow-up to his groundbreaking 1996 novel Fight Club. But in a twist befitting his award-winning transgressive fiction, it will be published as a graphic novel.

Everyone knows the first (and second) rule of Fight Club is do not talk about Fight Club, but thankfully that doesn’t seem to apply to Fight Club 2.

“I’ve been introduced to artists and creators from Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, and they’re walking me through the process,” Palahnuik wrote on his website, after revealing his plans on a panel at Comic-Con.

“It will likely be a series of books that update the story ten years after the seeming end of Tyler Durden. Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a come-back. Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It’s only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem.”

Given the psychological twist to the first book, we’re intrigued to see how Palahnuik approaches the story – but the idea of marital life and its inevitable Ikea trips seems the perfect opportunity for a Tyler-shaped comeback. As for anyone hoping to see Brad Pitt and Edward Norton return soon for a big screen sequel, don’t hold your breath; due to contractual obligations, the graphic novel won’t likely arrive until 2015 at the earliest.
