Booktopia’s Bookish News Wrap – Volume One

We love reading about books, nearly as much as reading them. That’s why a few of times a week we’ll be highlighting some of the most interesting articles from around the globe for all your bookish requirements.

In the New York Times Michiko Kakutani has called HRC, the highly-anticipated biography of Hillary Clinton, a ‘snappy account of Mrs. Clinton’s journey from Obama outsider to trusted adviser and comrade in arms’.

The Guardian has published an extract from Gary Shteyngart’s long-awaited memoir Little Failure detailing how writing transformed him from a ‘Red Gerbil’ outcast to a fully fledged American. If you haven’t seen the trailer for Little Failure, you must, it’s genius.

In The Age Liam Davison looks at The Poet’s Wife, Mandy Sayer’s incredible ‘Memoir of a Marriage’ about her 10 years of marriage to Pulitzer prize-winning American poet Yusef Komunyakaa. Davison praised Sayer’s ‘brutal honesty about her own emotional life and her transition from street performer living her father’s dream with no academic credentials, to successful author in control of her own life.’

On Friday we looked at a few of the authors you can find on twitter, and some accounts that mightn’t be the authors at all. Hard to believe, but the @TheTweetOfGod account may be a parody after all.

And for some fun, everyone’s favourite procrastination tool BuzzFeed has a quiz to help you discover which Jane Austen heroine you are. Turns out I’m Elinor Dashwood. My mother would be so proud.
