Well, we hear a lot about what teens should be reading, what they are reading overseas, what we want them to read. Want to know what Australian teenagers themselves think?
Enter the Inkys: There is no other award in Australia that reflects what teenagers want to read. The Inkys are international awards for teenage literature, voted for online by the readers of insideadog.com.au. There are three awards: the Golden Inky for an Australian book, the Silver Inky for an international book, and the Creative Reading Prize, won by a young person for a creative response to a book they love, in any format they choose
And the winners of the 2009 Inkys are….
Where the Streets Had a Name, Randa Abdel-Fattah
The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
Creative Reading Prize
Jack, Adam and Nathan (year 7, St Josephs College Geelong), video book trailer for The Hound of the Baskervilles.
By the way, The Hunger Games was absolutely consumed in my house. If you are ordering it, you should get the second one, Catching Fire, at the same time. Once they have read number one, they will DEFINITELY want the follow up.
