NEWS: Caroline Baum to become Editorial Director of the Booktopia BUZZ

by |May 25, 2012

Tony Nash, the CEO of Booktopia, announced this week that they have appointed Caroline Baum as their Editorial Director. Caroline will be responsible for the headline editorial pieces for the Booktopia Buzz, an online newsletter that has been running for over 4 years as well as contributing to other newsletter programs already in place. She will also be producing exclusive promotional book videos for Booktopia based on new releases in the Australian market through her Book Shots business:  www.bookshots.net

“We are extremely pleased to appoint Caroline with her wealth of experience as well as her standing and respect within the book industry from publishers, to authors and most importantly, to Booktopia readers,” said Nash.

Caroline Baum’s Australian book industry experience covers:

  •  Respected journalist, broadcaster and curator/presenter of cultural events.
  •  Founding editor of Good Reading magazine.
  •  Regular reviewer and contributor to books pages of SMH and other national publications.
  •  Regular guest at Writers’ Festivals around the country and overseas.
  •  Former chair of judges of Kibble Life Writing Award.
  •  Former host of TV bookshops including ABC’s Between the Lines and Foxtel’s Talking Books.
  •  Online presence on Bookshots interviewing writers.

When announcing that she was taking up the position of Editorial Director at Booktopia Baum said:

“I’m  very excited about this role at Booktopia because it’s about having a conversation with readers around the country, using technology that gives you choice and great customer service. I like the human factor of Booktopia, the fact that you can call up and find out how your order is progressing. The warehouse in Sydney is an inspiring place, not just because it is vast and efficient but because there’s just a huge selection of books there that makes me want to browse those stacks discovering new titles, new writers and old friends.
The team at Booktopia are infectiously dynamic and energetic and really committed to their customers.

I’ll be helping readers navigate their way through all the titles that are out there, selecting favourites, championing writers they might otherwise have overlooked. It’s a bit like being a matchmaker for book lovers!

This is the future of book retail and it’s nothing to be afraid of.  I am embracing it because it’s local and personal, like my favourite traditional bookshops.”
