As part of Australian Romance Month, Romance Specialist Haylee Nash will be interviewing one Australian Romance author per day. Much like a beauty pageant, each author will be using their charm, wit and grace (and the power of social media) to take home the Booktopia Romance Bestseller crown. Booktopia invites bestselling Mills & Boon author Trish Morey to the stage.
1. Describe the perfect date.
It would involve moonlight and bubbles and footprints on a sandy shore. Music and laughter and the holding of hands. There may be insufficient time for, or interest in, dining…
2. Which of your books are you most proud of?
That’s hard. I always joke that the book I just finished is my favourite, but as to which I’m most proud, I guess it would have to be the two books that won Australian Romantic Book of the Year (the RuBY) Awards. The Italian Boss’s Secret Child won its category in 2006 and The Italian Boss’s Mistress of Revenge won in 2009. Because the RuBY is an award judged by readers, that made those wins extra special, so yes, I have to be a bit proud of both of them.
3. What is the hardest thing about being a romance author?
Sometimes it’s trying to get that perfect vision in your head into the right words, sometimes it’s just making yourself sit down to write. Working from home offers its own problems, there’s always something that needs doing or someone who
assumes that since you’re home, you’re not busy. Take it from me, dogs are much easier to train than people 😉
4. What is the best thing about being a romance author?
That studying men constitutes research (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it).
5. Who (aside from a significant other) do you swoon over?
Antonio Banderas, in *that* tango scene from “Take the Lead”.
6. Tell us something very few people know about you.
7. Describe your writing style in three words.
Powerful. Sexy. Intense.
8. What is your definition of a good book?
Unputdownable. A book so good that the internal editor in my head forgets to edit and reads along with me. A book where I get to the end and think – wow, how did the author do that? And I’m already itching to read it again.
9. Which author would you invite to a dinner party and why?
Only one? Then it would have to be Kelly Hunter. Kelly’s books make me laugh and swoon and cheer for the heroine. I think she’d be a lot of fun at a dinner party table.
10. Finish this sentence: I would do anything for love, but I won’t do_____
Zumba (I tried, I really, really did. It wasn’t pretty.)
Trish Morey is a USA Today Bestselling author of more than 25 Harlequin Mills & Boon Sexy romances, all featuring strong alpha heroes and the women who can tame them, (with some pretty hot sex along the way).
