by |May 24, 2017

Graeme Simsion’s award-winning book The Rosie Project was an international bestseller, sold in over 40 countries and was quickly followed by its sequel The Rosie Effect. In 2016, Simsion released The Best of Adam Sharp, a novel about love, music and coming to terms with the past.

Australian award-winning actress Toni Collette has just optioned film rights for The Best of Adam Sharp, making it one of the first films for Collette’s production company Vocab Films.

So what hooked Collette? Simsion’s story revolves around a man named Adam who is on the cusp of fifty, has a loyal partner, earns a good income as an IT contractor and is the music-trivia expert at quiz nights. But something’s missing. The ‘what if’ of Adam’s past comes back to haunt him and he starts to wonder what could have been if he hadn’t fled from a passionate relationship twenty years prior. When this woman, Angelina, suddenly gets in touch with Adam, it becomes a story about taking risks and second chances.

What’s next? Collette would make a perfect Angelina, but who would play Adam? Keep an eye on this one, we think it’s going to be great!

Recently, Graeme visited us at Booktopia to chat about The Best of Adam Sharp. Have a listen to the interview:

A novel about love, music and coming to terms with the past, from the author of the international bestseller The Rosie Project.

On the cusp of fifty, Adam Sharp has a loyal partner, earns a good income as an IT contractor and is the music-trivia expert at quiz nights. It’s the lifestyle he wanted, but something’s missing.

Two decades ago, on the other side of the world, his part-time piano playing led him into a passionate relationship with Angelina Brown, who’d abandoned law studies to pursue her acting dream. She gave Adam a chance to make it something more than an affair but he didn’t take it. And now he can’t shake off his nostalgia for what might have been.

Then, out of nowhere, Angelina gets in touch. What does she want? Does Adam dare to live dangerously? How far will he go for a second chance?
